The hero of resistance, the priest Roman Kinyk, the head of the St. Catherine’s Church in Chernihiv, for many years brought together people who cherished love for Ukraine and Ukrainian culture. He recalls how, during the turning point of Ukraine’s modern history, when the Revolution of Dignity was unfolding on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, pro-Russian forces were gaining strength in Chernihiv. Even then, they had to resist.

Father Roman’s story of non-violent resistance is one of prayers and hard work in support of Ukrainian defenders. He recalls how, since November 2021, churches in Chernihiv had been praying around the clock for peace and calm in Ukraine. However, when the great war came to his hometown, he had to recall the skills he had gained during his compulsory military service, such as baking bread for the citizens who were left without food.
