Resistance in Occupation: How Chernihiv Region Survived the Beginning of the Full-Scale Invasion – “Heroes of the Resistance”

The story of Ivan Vashchenko’s resistance began in 2014 with his participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Eastern Ukraine. Back then, young Ivan went through his first real combat experience. And perhaps it was this tough experience that forever shaped his rejection of those who dare to bring the “Russian world” into our home.

During the full-scale invasion, Ivan Vashchenko being the head of the Koryukivka District Administration, had to resist the occupiers along with the community in a non-violent way. It was here that his combat experience and enthusiasm proved useful. They managed to stop and turn around a column of Russian tanks and neutralize an entire train carrying fuel for the enemy.

Even when the Russian invaders were driven out of Chernihiv Region by the Armed Forces of Ukrainian, together with the civilian population, the readiness to resist always remains. And, in Ivan Vashchenko’s belief, Ukrainians must always be ready to defend their home, their family and their country.
